Douglas stood at the end of his bunk at proud attention. Proud because he was remembering how far he had come since he first entered the military boarding school his parents had placed him in his freshman year of high school.
The Brother Who Was a Drug Addict
When Doug first entered the military boarding school that his parents had chosen for him he was full of resentment. He felt that he was being made to pay for his older brother's sins. While in high school his older brother had developed a heroin habit, ultimately leading to prison time when he was just 19. Now his parents were convinced that had they sent him to a military boarding school he would have been diverted from such a self-destructive path.
As Doug approached his first year of high school, his parents began investigating various boys' boarding schools but were unsatisfied that these schools did anything more than provide sound academics. However, the more they looked into military boarding school, the more they were convinced that a military boarding school would provide the life and leadership skills that they wanted Doug to develop in addition to providing an excellent academic program.
What did Doug's parent find so commendable about the military boarding school that they finally chose?
Why a military Boarding School?- Leadership Training: A military boarding school prepares young men for the military as well as for life. The critical thinking and leadership skills necessary for successful living is core to a military boarding school's mission.
- Athletics: A military boarding school usually provides an exemplary athletic program that would harness their sons competitiveness into a powerful force for good, teaching good sportsmanship and inculcating a love for physical excellence.
- Values: A military school inculcates an ethical code, or code of honor, that will act as a moral compass and form the basis of their son's character that will serve him well for the rest of his life.
As Doug recalled the countless arguments he had had when his parents told him of their plans to send him to a military boarding school he had to laugh at what a little "know it all" he had been. He now realized that his parents' far-sightedness had saved him the years of turmoil that had almost sunk his drug addicted brother's life and he only wished that they had known to send his brother to a military boarding school as well.
